Victims of Crash Flown to Hospital

On April 10, 2016 at about 6:36 AM Jackson County Sheriff's Dept. Dispatch
received several 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle accident on I 65 southbound
near the 42 mile marker.

Jackson County Deputy Hutchinson was dispatched to the accident along with
Vernon Township Fire Dept. and two Jackson County Ambulances. Before emergency
units arrived dispatch learned the vehicle had caught on fire.

When first responders arrived they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Two people had been in the vehicle and were assisted out by good Samaritans.

The driver Norton Baughman, 19 of Seymour, stated the passenger Joshua Lane, 22
of Seymour, grabbed the steering wheel and pulled them off of the road. The 2005 Chevy
Trailblazer left the east side of the road and struck a tree before bursting
into flames.

Baughman and Lane were flown from the scene by two different air ambulance
helicopters. The status of their injuries, at the time of this news release, is unknown. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. Deputy Hutchinson is investigating the accident.

Assisting at the Scene was Crothersville Police Officer Chris Cooper, Jackson County Deputy Rob Henley, Jackson County Ambulance Service, Vernon Township Fire Department, Lifeline and
Statflight air ambulances.
