Leaving the Scene

NEWS RELEASE - Jackson County Sheriff's Department

On April 10, 2016 - 3:30 PM Reserve Deputy Greg Murphy responded to a report of a silver Pontiac that had left the scene after striking a REMC utility pole in the 7700 block North County Road 875 East.

Seymour Police Department later received reports of a silver Pontiac driving all over the roadway in Seymour. Officers Bart Beavers and Jason Alberring located that vehicle on Maple Street. When officers approached it, Zakary Lucas, who was near the vehicle attempted to run into a residence but Beavers was able to apprehend Lucas and place him under arrest. Beavers located a hypodermic needle in Lucas's possession.

Jackson County Deputy Rick Meyer arrived on scene to speak with Lucas about the accident. Meyer stated that Lucas appeared to be under the influence. Lucas admitted to Meyer of driving the vehicle that struck the utility pole. Lucas failed a field sobriety test, and was taken to Schneck Medical Center for a blood draw. Lucas was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police have filed requests for charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of a
hypodermic needle, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
