CROTHERSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT February 16, 2017
On February 16th, 2017 at approximately 3:30pm, the Crothersville Police Department received a report of three individuals attempting to steal items from Wischmeier Trucking in the 9000 block of East County Road 600 South. This was the second report of the day, where these individuals were attempting to steal items. The suspects fled the scene prior to Crothersville Chief Brent Turner's arrival.
Crothersville Police Captain J.L. McElfresh and Chief Turner responded to the location on the second report. Upon their arrival, one male suspect was seen fleeing into a wooded area north of Wischmeier Trucking. Crothersville officers requested assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police in an attempt to locate the suspects. A vehicle description was obtained and Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies Rob Henley, Dustin Steward, and Reserve Deputy Brad Barker were able to stop a vehicle matching the description. The driver of that vehicle, Robert Northern of Austin, IN was found to have an active warrant out of Scott County for Burglary.
With the assistance of Crothersville Officer Matt Browning, Jackson County Sheriff Deputy Rick Meyer, Jackson County Reserve Deputy Steve Murphy, Indiana State Troopers Tia Deaton and Michael Thiron, an extensive search was conducted for the other two suspects. Jackson County Sheriff's Department Detective Tom Barker also responded and assisted with the investigation at the scene.
At approximately 6:30pm, Crothersville officers received another report of a suspicious male in the area of 5100 South County Road 1000 East. Crothersville. Officers responded to that call and located a male subject that matched the description of one of the suspects. After further investigation, Captain McElfresh arrested Jaron Mullins of Austin, IN for Burglary (Level 5 Felony), Theft (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony), and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor).
Robert Northern was also arrested for Burglary (Level 5 Felony) and Theft (Level 6 Felony) for the incident at Wischmeier Trucking. The vehicle Robert Northern was driving was towed by Howard's Wrecker Service. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
